Indian equity markets extended their losing streak into a third consecutive session on July 28, 2025. A combination of weak earnings from select index heavyweights and caution surrounding the upcoming U.S.-India trade agreement deadline weighed heavily on investor sentiment.
The Nifty 50 slipped by 156.10 points or 0.63%, closing at 24,680.90, while the Sensex lost 572.06 points or 0.70%, ending at 80,891.03.
Sectoral & Stock Highlights
Among the 11 major sectoral indices, only two ended in the green.
Nifty Realty took a sharp hit, falling 4.07%, driven by heavy losses in Godrej Properties and Lodha Developers, with the index breaching its 200-day exponential moving average (DEMA). Nifty Pharma was the notable gainer, adding 0.43%, buoyed by strength in Cipla and Laurus Labs.
In the broader market:
Nifty Midcap 100 declined 0.84%, and Nifty Smallcap 100 dropped 1.26%, with both indices closing at their one-month lows.
On the stock-specific front:
Kotak Mahindra Bank fell more than 7% after reporting a tepid Q1FY26, pulling the Nifty down by 65.05 points. CDSL declined 5.69% following a drop in quarterly profit. Lodha Developers slumped 5.96% post-results. TCS declined 1.8% after announcing a 2% workforce cut. On the positive side, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, and Cipla provided some support to the index.
