Indian equities ended marginally higher on July 16, 2025, extending gains for the second consecutive session. Supported by buying in large-cap names like Infosys and Mahindra & Mahindra, the markets maintained a steady tone despite mixed global cues and pressure from the metal sector.
The Nifty 50 closed at 25,212.05, up 16.25 points or 0.06%, while the BSE Sensex added 63.57 points, ending at 82,634.48. Market movement remained range-bound, but selective buying in autos, IT, and PSU banks provided the necessary support.
๐ฆ Sectoral Overview
Out of the 11 major NSE indices, 8 closed in the green. The Nifty IT index led sectoral gainers with a 0.63% rise, propelled by Tech Mahindra, which jumped ahead of its quarterly results. The auto index gained 0.44%, supported by Mahindra & Mahindra, although Tata Motors limited broader gains. The metal index was the worst performer of the day, falling 0.54%, as a firmer U.S. dollar dampened sentiment for global commodities.
A standout performer was the Nifty PSU Bank index, which surged 1.81%, reaching an 11-month high, led by Punjab National Bank and other key state-owned banks.
๐ Global Sentiment & Economic Calendar
Markets globally remained cautious ahead of further data out of the U.S. and China. A stronger U.S. dollar weighed on metals, while investor sentiment remained buoyant in anticipation of more earnings releases and geopolitical trade clarity.
