Indian equity benchmarks began the week with mild declines, reflecting caution among investors after last week’s strong momentum. While frontline indices ended lower, strength in select mid- and small-cap stocks, especially within infrastructure-linked sectors, provided some balance.
Benchmark Snapshot
Nifty 50 closed at 24,945.45, down 0.30% Sensex fell by 0.33% to end at 82,059 Bank Nifty defied broader trends, gaining 0.12% to close at 55,420
Despite today’s dip, the Nifty remains up 2.5% for May, supported by overall market resilience and corporate earnings optimism.
Sectoral & Stock Highlights
The spotlight was on the Information Technology sector, which came under pressure, shedding 1.3%. This pullback follows a recent Moody’s downgrade of the U.S. sovereign credit rating from AAA to Aa1, which weighed heavily on IT stocks due to their exposure to U.S. markets. Infosys and TCS were among the top draggers, while Mphasis led sectoral losses.
In contrast, Divi’s Laboratories surged over 6% after delivering a strong Q4 performance, boosting sentiment in the pharma space. Bajaj Auto and Bajaj Finance also provided upward momentum.
