Daily Market Wrap | April 22, 2025

Indian equity markets maintained their bullish momentum for the sixth consecutive session on Tuesday, with both the Nifty 50 and Sensex inching higher to close at their highest levels since January 2025. While frontline indices ended with modest gains, the standout performer of the day was the Bank Nifty, which surged to a new record high.

Market Highlights

Nifty 50 rose 41 points (0.17%) to close at 24,167, marking its highest closing since January 2025. Sensex added 187 points (0.24%) to settle at 79,595. Bank Nifty gained 0.62%, clocking its fastest-ever 5,000-point rally — from 50,000 to 55,000 in just 218 trading sessions, driven by strong sentiment and regulatory relief on RBI’s LCR norms.

Kotak Mahindra Bank hit a fresh 52-week high, powering sectoral gains. However, IndusInd Bank slid nearly 5% following reports of a forensic audit, dampening overall sentiment in the stock.

Sectoral & Broader Market Overview

Midcap and Smallcap indices continued to build on recent gains, up 0.78% and 0.73%, respectively. Out of the 17 sectoral indices, 13 closed in the green, with FMCG, Financial Services, and Consumer Durables leading the charge.
